What is the sacrament of Confirmation?

Confirmation is the affirmation of the Baptismal promises...Receiving the sacrament of Confirmation completes your initiation into the Roman Catholic Church. The process of preparation for Confirmation requires you to examine your own faith and grow closer to God. Students in the St. Vincent Program will need to attend scheduled class sessions, attend their Confirmation Retreat, complete ten (10) community service hours, participate in parish activities, and attend Sunday Mass regularly.

Choosing your Confirmation Sponsor

A sponsor is a person who encourages, assists, and walks the faith journey with a Confirmation candidate to help them embrace, fall in love, and actively practice the Catholic faith before and after Confirmation. The sponsor is also there to present the Candidate to the Bishop at the celebration of Confirmation.

Your sponsor must be a practicing Catholic and mature in their faith commitment and must be fully initiated (confirmed). The sponsor may NOT be a candidate’s parent (Canon Law 874). Your sponsor may be asked to participate in a retreat or penitential service during the two year preparation period. If your sponsor will not be able to attend such activities, please have a local mentor available (a practicing Catholic such as a grandparent, godparent, or mature family member/friend) who can take their place. Confirmation Sponsor Form
