Curriculum St. Vincent School’s curriculum is designated by the Archdiocesan Office of Education in compliance with California State requirements and the Common Core Standards. It includes a sequential program of learning. Students receive daily instruction in Religion/Family Life, Reading, Spelling, English, Handwriting, Math, Social Studies, and Science/ Health. Students receive weekly instruction in the Accelerated Reader program, Physical Education, Music, Art and Computers. Children who do not complete the curricular requirements for their level may be considered for retention – after parent-teacher consultation. We strongly encourage students to use the public library on a regular basis and to read daily. At various times during the school year, students have the opportunity to participate in classroom and outside contests and other mind and spirit-building activities.
Testing We administer the Iowa Test of Basic Skills to all students in grades 2nd through 8th in the fall of each school year. This is prescriptive testing in order to assist parents and teachers in assessing individual strengths and weaknesses so that effective curricular programs can be planned to meet students’ individual needs. We administer Cognitive Abilities Testing to students in grades 3rd, 5th and 7th, and we administer the Assessment of Catechesis Religious Education (A.C.R.E.) to 5th and 8h grade students in January of each school year.
