St. Vincent School guides students to model their behavior after the life of St. Vincent de Paul (our patron and Vincentian founder), who loved and served the poor, whom he treated as his “Lords and masters”.
In the spirit of all of our Vincentian founders (St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louise de Marilliac, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton) and the foundress of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet (Mother St. John Fontbonne), the St. Vincent School community constantly strives to be a family of service.
From Transitional Kindergarten through 8th Grade, students participate in a variety of service opportunities to help others – from families in need within our school community to children and families on the other side of the world. Contributing to school-wide supply and coin drives, taking part in on and off-campus service projects, and joining the Vincentian Marian Youth group are all ways students live out their call to be Vincentian-spirited Catholics.
St. Vincent School works to instill the importance of service in our students so that their care for others does not end at graduation. We plant and nurture the seed of service so our students, like St. Vincent de Paul, will be enkindled to serve others and the poor throughout their entire lives.
Class Service Projects
In addition to taking part in school-wide service projects, every class at St. Vincent School participates in a year-long, class-specific service project. These projects place a more individual, class-oriented focus on giving, and they run throughout each of the three trimesters.
At the beginning of every school year, each class develops a service goal that it aims to achieve through its service project. Goals range from picking up papers in the school yard (Kindergarten) to spending a day of service each trimester in a food bank or a homeless shelter (8th grade). Other service goals include collecting books or socks, and making cards for children in hospitals.
Each class displays its goal on a poster outside its classroom to remind themselves and the entire school community of the service they have committed to complete.
